Every year I go up to kayak on Sullivan Lake by going up the Knouff Lake Road.   I paddle the lake, then on the way back, I turn down the Sullivan Valley Road, which is a good gravel road all the way down to Highway 5N.   The upper area is mixed forests with some wet areas, some plantations, and some glades.    Halfway down is a benchland of grazing pastures and grasslands.    The final section is a steep drop through Douglas fir and ponderosa pine forests.    Along this route are a number of stops to observe wildflowers, flowering shrubs, marsh plants, insects, and birds.    One glade is filled with perennial Dianthus, probably started as an escapee from gardens up near Knouff Lake.

Shared here are some of the flowering plants found on this route – red-osier dogwood (Cornus sericea) , twinberry honeysuckle (Lonerica involucrata), Dianthus (D. deltoides), western columbine (Aquilegia formosa), tiger lily (Lilium columbianum), silky lupine (Lupinus sericeus), white campion (Silene latifolia), aspen fleabane (Erigeron speciosus), birch-leaved spirea (Spiraea betulifolia), cream cinquefoil (Drymocallis convallaria), blanketflower (Gaillardia aristata), chokecherry (Prunus virginiana), showy milkweed (Ascelepius speciosa), and pale Agoseris (Agoseris glauca).
