Albas Nature Hike

Wildflower Journal Posted on 2025-05-19 by D. Smith2025-10-16

The Albus Site is part of Shuswap Lake Marine Park and it is located near the east end of Seymour Arm.    It can be accessed by water or by a one-lane road from the Ruckell Point – Seymour Arm Road down to a campsite or to a trailhead by Celista Creek.    There are beautiful beaches on the lake, but it is often hiked since the trails go up either side of the cascades and waterfalls in the canyon.    On an early May day we drove 2.5 hours to Albas and hiked the trails, then walked the beaches.   Along the way we spotted wildflowers and flowering shrubs, a few of which are shared here:

  • Kinnikinnick (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi)
  • False solomon’s seal (Maianthemum racemosum)
  • Stream violet (Viola glabella)
  • Wild strawberry (Fragaria sp.)
  • Harsh paintbrush (Castilleja hispida)
  • A male fern? (Dryopteris filix-mas)
  • A beardmoss? (Vinealobryum sp.)
  • Woodland forget-me-nots (Myosotis sylvatica)
  • Baneberry (Actaea rubra)
  • False morel (Gyromitra esculenta)
  • Queen’s cup (Clintonia uniflora)
  • Polypores (Trametes sp.)
