Greenstone Nature Hike

Wildflower Journal Posted on 2026-06-21 by D. Smith2026-06-07
spreading dogbane

On a longer hike on trails on the northeast side of Greenstone Mountain, I stopped along the way for some quick photos of flowering plants alongside the trail.    Some areas were open grassland, some were on slopes that had burned in a forest fire and some were in open Douglas fir forests.  Almost all were expected appearances for the first part of June, but were welcome returns nonetheless.

Shared here are photos of harsh paintbrush (Castilleja hispida), spreading dogbane (Apocynum androsaemifolium sp.), fleabanes (Erigeron sp.), vetch and milkvetch (Astralagus sp.), checkered beetle (Tricodes sp.) on salsify (Tragopogon sp.), birch-leaved Spirea (Spiraea betulifolia), beetle (Pseudoguarantina?) on wild rose, slender hawksbeard (Crepis tectorum?), kinnikinnick (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi), small leaf pussytoes (Antennaria parvifolia), small pussytoes (Antennaria sp.), Canada violet (Viola canadensis), and cutleaf anemone (Anemone multifida).

Some of these are not specifically identified, especially when time is need to take additional photos of leaves, the backside of the flowers, and the base of the plant.   When hiking, the extra time needed interrupts the flow of the workout.   Comments are welcome.
