Timber Hills Nature Hike

Wildflower Journal Posted on 2025-08-27 by D. Smith2026-07-16

On a summer morning I drove up the Lac le Jeune Road, then turned onto the Timber Lake forest Service Road.    I parked near a side road and hiked up through the hills on double tracks, first to Tower Hill and out to viewpoints, then up secondary roads which wound through the Interior Plateau douglas fir forests at an elevation of about 4000 ft.   This was a 5.7 km hike, but I took time at viewpoints and to observe wildflowers, and find a few geocaches so I was out for much of the morning.

Shared here are some images of flowering and berry-laden plants spotted while on this hike – soopalallie (Shepherdia canadenis), nodding onion (Allium cernuum), black swamp currant (Ribes lacustre), mullein (Verbascum thapsus), Jacob’s ladder (Polemonium pulcherrimum), paintbrush (Castilleja sp.), snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus), and wild rose (Rosa sp.).

A gallery of photos taken on this hike are shared here in a gallery.     Click on any image to go to the gallery where captions are available.

This is an area I also snowshoe later in the winter so I will be back to enjoy these trails then.
