Kalamalka Nature Hike
On a warm spring day we drove to Vernon and then to the Cosens Bay Trailhead in Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park. We hiked the Coming Around the Mountain Trail and other trails in an 11 km loop. There were many early spring flowering plants along the route and we took some photos along the way.
Included here are images of arrow-leaved balsamroot (Balsamorhiza sagittata), ballhead waterleaf (Hydrophyllum capitatum), few-flowered shooting stars (Dodecatheon pulcehellum), large-fruited desert parsley (Lomatium macrocarpum), berberry (Berbaris sp.), oregon grape (Berberis/Mahonia aquifolia), saskatoon (Amelanchier alnifolia), western spring beauty (Claytonia lanceolata), pale comandra (Comandra umbellata), meadow saxifrage (Saxifragia nidifica), small-flowered woodland star (Lithphragma parviflorum), and wax currant (Ribes cereum).
Bees were busy on the currants and balsamroot during the hike. I was pleased to spot a number of ballhead waterleaf plants in bloom.
A Google Photos Album (link) of the images is embedded here.
A post on the hike itself can be seen on Kamloops Trails.
