The vegetable gardens are planted with spring crops and many seedlings are now showing.    A second planting is planned for around Victoria Day.    We have the promise of spinach and peas soon.   In the flower beds and borders, perennials are recovering from the winter dormancy and a few have started to flower.   Some of the bordering flowering shrubs and fruit trees have started to put on a spring show.   More are underway.    Spring is a wonderful time in the back yard gardens.

A few perennials are now in flower too, all from the backyard gardens:

• pasqueflower (Pulsatilla vulgaris)
• bleeding hearts (Lamprocampnos spectabilis)
• aubrieta (Aubrieta deltoidia)
• spreading phlox (Phlox diffusa)
• yellow alyssum (Aurinia saxatilis)
