Baileys Chute Nature Hike
At the start of June I journeyed up the Wells Gray Corridor towards Clearwater Lake. I stopped to hike a loop route which included three waterfalls and a lake. I hiked past Bailey’s Chute, Marcus Falls, Myanth Falls, then West Lake on a warm day. Much of the hike was through a wet zone with mists from the falls, streams and small marshes, and damp mixed forests with cedar, Douglas fir, and many shrubs. As I hiked I stooped briefly to observe and photograph flowering plants, shrubs, and whatever caught my attention.
Some of the photos shared here include false solomon’s seal (Maianthemum racemosum), Hooker’s fairybells (Disporum hookeri), fairyslippers (Calypso bulbosa), skunk cabbage (Lysichiton americanum), devil’s club (Oplopanax horridus), oak fern (Gymnocarpium aquilinum), bunchberry (Cornus canadensis), queen’s cup (Clintonia uniflora), rose twisted stalk (Streptopus roseus), sarsaparilla (Aralia nudicaulis), slender orchid (Platanthera unalascensis), five-leaved bramble (Rubus pedatus), and foamflower (Tiarella sp.).
At times, more photos (leaves, undersides, base) of plants would be better for identifying specific species (or subspecies) of plants so the IDs are usually correct, but comments are welcome for alternative IDs.
