Zillions of Photos
Over the last decade I have taken many, many photos. Recently, I have been pruning and weeding them, then sorting the keepers into named folders. This work will take some months yet, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
In my previous website, I uploaded many images to the website media library. This makes it easy to post images or galleries, but over time, the sheer burden of the space slowed down the site and pressured my hosting plan. I keep all my images in the Cloud now, but how to share them to my websites?
I have been sending the various wildflower shots to a different Cloud source, organizing them into albums. Google Photos is easy to use but the API (application program interface is either broken or just hard to work with). I have found solutions to solve the problem so that I can share albums online. I created the album in Google Photos, then adjust the settings for sharing. I use the album link to insert into an embedding program which allows me to insert code into posts.
This means that the website runs faster, the burden on the server is reduced, and I have backups in case of a crash. I prefer galleries on line laid out in a grid, and I have worked out a way to include a grid (without captions) or as a slideshow. When Google fixes its API, I should be able to do more.
This is all quite technical, but it explains why the websites I have have shifted to an alternate format.
