Bonaparte Plateau Nature Hike
At the end of summer, we drove a long way on backroads to the Bonaparte Plateau, then we hiked through forest and burned areas to Skoatl Point. We climbed the volcanic basalt hill (at 1573 m elevation – 5160 ft.) and returned by the same route. This was a 9.7 km hike, taking 3.5 hours. Along the way, there were a few wildflowers and other interesting plants to observe, mostly in the unburned forest.
Shared here are mat saxifrage (on top), stonecrop, queen’s cup, asters, arnica, lupine, clubmoss, grass of Parnassus, baneberry, pearly everlasting, and bunchberry.
A Google Photos album is included here as a gallery. Click any image for the online album and click any individual photo for captions.
Scientific names for these plants can be found on this website at this link.
