Wandering Across the Hills Above Neskonlith Lake
In the rocky south-facing hills above Neskonlith Lake, wildflowers bloom soon after the snows melt. the star of the show are yellow glacier lilies (erythronium grandiflorum).
A couple of weeks later long-flowered bluebells (mertensia longiflora) graces the slopes.
Growing in massive numbers across the open slopes are western spring beauties (montia parvifolia).
Pale comandra (comandra umbellata (pallida)) starts to emerge and will continue to grow to about 30 cm.
Three kinds of desert parsley appear with white, yellow, or chocolate flowers. Lomatium geyeri is the first to bloom.
In wet gullies, pussy willows start to bloom.
Following the earlier flowering varieties, arrow-leaved balsam root (balsamorhiza sagittata) is the star of the wildflower show.
The next wave of wildflowers will emerge in late spring, so we will back to witness the event.
the pic labelled Lomatium geyeri is almost certainly Lomatium macrocarpum, Doug.
