Upper Grasslands Nature Hike
I paddled Pass Lake, then came down to the Upper Grasslands for a wildflower walk. There were chocolate lilies (Fritillaria lanceolata), upland larkspur (Delphinium nuttialanum), arnica (Arnica cordifolia), the first blooms of sticky geranium (Geranium viscosissimum), star-flowered false solomon’s-seal (Smilacena stellata), and arrow-leaved balsamroot. In the same area were sandwort (Arenaria capillaris), small-flowered penstemon (Penstemon procerus), small-flowered woodland star (Lithophragma parviflorum) , and fern-leaved desert parsley (Lomatium dissectum).
There is a succession of wildflowers in the upper grasslands so more return trips are planned.
