Through the Ironmask Hills
On a grey and mild day I hiked through the Ironmask Hills. The area has open forest, grasslands hills, and dry meadows in October. Along the way I spotted a few plants of interest.
From a distance I saw the golden yellow stems, branches and fern-like leaves of asparagus (Asparagus officinalis), saltwort (Salicornia rubra) was bright red on the fringes of an alkali pond, and many fungi were on protected hillsides in various locations.

We saw a few wildflowes in bloom too, like curlycup gumweed (Grindelia squarrosa), hawksbeard (Crepis sp.), rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus nauseosus), and oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare sp.).
The first frosts are coming soon.
