On a morning in June, I drove up the Knouff Lake road to paddle Sullivan Lake. After paddling around the lake I returned by a different road, turning down the Knouff to Vinsula Road through Sullivan Valley. Along the way, I made several stops to enjoy the wildflowers, flowering shrubs, pollinators, birds, and wet areas in the meadows and forests along the way. A few images are shared here.
In the first gallery are photos of oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare sp.), American vetch (Vicia americana), silky lupine (Lupinus sericeus), old man’s whiskers (Geum triflorum), hillside arnica (Arnica fulgens), dianthus <not yet in bloom> (Dianthus deltoides). Click an image for a lightbox view and a caption.
In the second gallery are photos of red clover (Trifolium pratense), alfalfa (Medicado sativa), fleabane (Erigeron sp.), red-osier dogwood <shrub> (Cornus stolonifera sp.), parsnipflowered buckwheat (Erigonum heracleoides), pale agoseris (Agoseris glauca) and narrow-leaved desert-parsley (Lomatium triternatum).
I will be back in the area to paddle Badger Lake, and on that day I will drive the Orchard Lake Road, another good spot for observing the plant world.
