We hiked down through the forest on the Candle Creek Trail to the Clearwater River Trail. Most of the wildflowers are past by mid-August so we noted some weedy flowers in the open area at the top. St. John’s wort is spreading in disturbed areas.
Yellow hawkweed graced the parking area near the trailhead.
In the forest various ground covers were healthy and spreading. Ground cedar (a club moss) grew alongside the trail.
Some of the club moss was already setting seed.
And mosses covered the volcanic rocks.
The waterfalls were the feature, though, on this steep hike in the Clearwater River Valley.
