Summer in the Garden
At various times over the spring and summer I ventured out into the garden to take photos of flowers in bloom, a few of which are shared here:
Although we do not seed or cultivate mallow, it may seed and thrive in neglected spots. We find them beautiful in flower, but ragged afterwards. We try to deadhead seedheads to avoid unwanted plants in the next year.
We have 4 different clematis vines on trellises. The Clematis Jackmanni is one of the most reliable and prolific bloomers. Feet in the shade, heads in the sun for clematis.
We have many daylilies in various borders all blooming at different phases. Always a winner.
We have quite a few tall white-flowered phlox that have a long-blooming period (late summer to fall), but we also have this mid-height pinkish phlox.
Although we don’t have annuals in the garden beds, Dianne plants baskets for the front door and back door. These petunias seemed to bloom for months.
We have some solidago in borders and we seem to be always transplanting it since it can be a vigorous plant. It is a favorite of butterflies so we want some of them in the middle row of borders and perennial beds.
When winter arrives it is nice to leaf back to earlier days in the growing season.
