On the Bushwhacker Trail
We hiked a longer route on the Stake Lake Trails, including a backcountry route called the Bushwhacker Trail in July and watched for wildflowers along the way. Mature tiger lilies formed a candelabra shape beside the trail.
Spotted Saxifrage was abundant on the rocky outcrops on top of McConnell Hill.
Sulphur buckwheat was also spotted on open gravelly hills. The long-horned beetle is part of the acmaeops family.
Northern gentian was abundant and was found in a variety of habitats.
Agoseris stood in small clusters on top of McConnell Hill.
Spotted saxifrage (a favorite) filled the spaces on rocky damp slopes.
While we stopped at a lookout o enjoy the view a swallowtail paused long enough for a photo.
