On Sunrise Mountain
On a grey drizzly day we hiked to the top of Sunrise Mountain above Barnhartvale. The hike is very steep and we stopped a few times to take some photos.
Thompson’s paintbrush was in bloom on the lower open slopes.
Milk-vetch (astralagus sp.) was just starting to flower higher on the open ridge.
An orange paintbrush was spotted on the backside of the mountain.
We looped down through douglas fir slopes back to the open ridge.
Comandra umbellata (bastard toadflax) flowers were just opening on rocky, open slopes.
And, arrow-leaved balsam root still brings much color to the lower slopes of the mountain.
We also spotted flowers on old man’s whiskers, upland larkspur, woodland star, shooting stars, kinnikinnik, peak saxifrage, alumroot, and more, but it was a wet, grey day, so we will take more photos when the light and conditions are better.
