On Lac le Jeune West
On a paddle of Lac le Jeune West there were yellow waterlilies (Nuphar polysepalum sp.) in flower in shallow bays.
Dragonflies were hovering over the lake and one landed on the kayak. This one is probably a belted whiteface (Leucorrhinia proxima).
Damselflies were all over the lake and landed on some lily pads.
On some of the yellow water lilies were exoskeltons of damselflies and dragonflies.
It was a hot day so I took my time watching the various insects on the water and in the bays.
Next up to bloom in the lake will be smartweed, marsh cinquefoil, water buttercup and a few more. I will be out on the lakes to document their appearance.
