On Greenstone Mountain
On a sunny mid-October day I hiked on the slopes of Greenstone Mountain. Much of the area had been burned in the 1998 fire, but some areas had regenerative growht and some had been replanted. The hike was fairly open though since the new trees were not yet taller. I was pleasantly surprised to find some larch trees in fall colors.
There were a couple of late season wildflowers, but most plants were in seed production or had gone dormant. There was still much to see.

In such a dry year there were few fungi and most perennials were long past, but shrubs and trees were sporting fall colors.
Beautiful! I’ve only been up there once in the fall, a couple of years ago. Tamarack are one of my favorite trees. They used to use them for railway ties. Tough wood. I didn’t know that they grew near Kamloops! Thanks, jan 🦉
