Stream Violets
From the start of the Trophy Mountain Trail to the subalpine meadows, stream violets (viola glabella) were abundant.
The leaves are heart-shaped with pointed tips and hairy edges.
The yellow flowers have the distinct violet petal arrangement, but with purple lines:
Quite often the small flowers were in the shade, making it difficult to get a crisp image. They also grown in glades and along the sides of the trail so I just waited until the angle was just right to provide enough light.
It still takes a steady hand (or a tripod) to get a good image. Most are a little blurry.
We see them after the snow near streams or in seep zones in subalpine meadows in late spring. These perennials spread by fleshy rhizomes. They set seed in the summer and become part of the unnoticed understory of the forest and on the edges of meadows.
Nice crisp photos! Hand-held?
Always.
