In June when we hiked into subalpine meadows we watched the Indian Hellebore leaves rising on short stems.   By August, hellebore can reach 2 m in height.

Small flowers can be found at the end of drooping tassels in the summer, followed by capsules in late summer.

In wet areas. larger groupings of hellebore stood above the other subalpine plants.

The first frosts will knock down the tall stalks and tassles in September, the end of the growing season.
