A May 11 Garden Tour
A morning tour of the home garden with my camera resulted in a few more photos to share.
We have cherry, apple, pear, and plum trees in blossom in May. This is a late prune plum blossom.
Grape hyacinths have been in the garden for decades.
Spirea blooms in successive waves of white blossoms.
A flowering almond shrub is attracting many pollinators and will be finished this phase soon.
Candytuft is just starting to blossom now.
The first thrift flower showed up yesterday.
We have some recumbent broom in rockeries which is just now starting to bloom.
Our apple tree is now attracting a lot of bees, but it will soon be attracting caterpillars too.
Snow-in-summer (cerastium tomentosum) has been used as a ground cover in the yard now for over 40 years. It is a useful plant for difficult spots. Its delicate flowers look like chickweed.
And the star of the garden in spring is bleeding hearts. They are long-lived, hardy, and reliable, but don’t plant them in a hot, dry location.
We will continue to photograph the emerging flowers and plants of our home garden, working on quality images to share with others.
