Investigating the Wildflowers Near Hyas Lake
I went high into the hills to paddle Hyas Lake (1234 m). On the way back I stopped to photograph some of the wildflowers of the area.
There were fragrant white Bog Orchids (Platanthera dilatata sp.) in seep zones. There were swaths of Western Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja occidentalis). Red Columbine (Aquilegia formosa) graced the open areas near the forest. Self-heal (Prunella vulgaris) was flowering in the open wet spots and there were occasional glimpses of Orange Agoseris (Agoseris aurantiaca).

Pollinators were busy on wildflowers. A swallowtail was spotted on a Tiger Lily. Various flies and other pollinators were active on Cow Parsnip (Heracleum lanatum sp.) and on Thimbleberry (Rubus parviflorus). Damselflies were active in predation on the leaves.

This area was rich in wildflowers and greater exploration was called for, but, “I had promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep….”
And a short video from the outing at Hyas Lake:
