In the Deep Lake Hills
The south facing slopes of the valleys were dry and most wildflowers were past the flowering stages, but there were a few in sheltered spots. On this day, I spotted white prairie asters (Aster ericoides sp.), snowberries (Symphoricarpos albus), wire lettuce (Stephanomeria tenuifolia), and goldenrod (Solidago canadensis). Also spotted was a fritillary, rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus nauseosus), and alfalfa (Medicago sativa).
Even in drought conditions we can still find beauty, but we have to be patient and observant as we hike through the hills.
