Hiking through the Neskonlith Hills
In April every year I venture out to the hills above Neskonlith Lake to witness the wildflowers. The stars of the show are the avalanche lilies (Erythronium grandiflorum) and the sagebrush bluebells (Mertensia oblongifolia).
The supporting cast was emerging and will fill in over the coming days. On this hike there were western spring beauties (Claytonia lanceolata), small-flowered woodland star (Lithophragma glabrum), western larkspur (Delphimium nutiallum), willows (Salix sp.), small-flowered blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia parviflora), choke cherry (Prunus virginiana), desert parsley (Lomatium macrocarpum), fern-leaved desert parsley (Lomatium dissectum), and arrow-leaved balsam root (Balsamorhiza sagittata).
There are a series of pilgrimages to wildflower oases in our area to be done each year. The next one is in a month.
