Fossils n’ Flowers
In the summer, we took the grandkids into the hills to find some fossils. We found a few, but also enjoyed the wildflowers along the way.
Mariposa lilies were in bloom on the open hillsides.
I knew where shalebeds are situated so we expected to find a few like this one.
Blazing stars were spotted in the driest, rockiest spots.
Dawn sequoia fossils are often found near Kamloops Lake.
On another dry hillside I spotted clustered broomrape, a parasitic perennial.
On the way back we stopped by the river where dogbane was in flower.
On the rivershore floodlands were a number of patches of poison ivy too.
We did some goldpanning in the river and spotted an old crabapple tree, healthy, and producing fruit.
We found this alder leaf fossil in the beds above.
On the way back we spotted some prickly pear cactus flowers on the dry hillsides.
We will be back again to search for more fossils, gold flakes, and flowers.
