Denman Island in Spring
We stayed on Denman Island in April and hiked trails, shorelines, and routes each day. We enjoyed the spring wildflowers, flowering shrubs, and new growth in the mild, wet Coastal climate. We took some photos along the way, but it has taken 6 months to get to them to a point where they can be shared. There will be two posts of Denman Island in 2024.
In the first gallery are featured Pacific stonecrop (Sedum divergens), skunk cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus), spurge laurel (Daphne laureola), Pacific bleeding hearts (Didentra formosa), Red-berried elder (Sambucus racemosa), bogbean (Menyanthes trifoliata), Pacific dogwood (Cornus nattallii), salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis), and salal (Galtheria shallon).

In the second gallery are honeysuckle (Lonerica spp.), vetch (Vicia sp.), wallflower (Erysimum sp.), seep monkeyflower (Erythranthe guttata), star-of-Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum), vanilla leaf (Achlys triphylla), scotch broom (Cytisus scoparius), bigleaf maple (Acer macrophyllum), lawn daisy (Bellis perennis), and chocolate lily (Fritillaria affinis).
- Spurge laurel and scotch broom are considered to be invasive plants.
- Honeysuckle vine, vetch, monkeyflower, chocolate lily, skunk cabbage, salmonberry, red-berried elder, and stonecrop can also be spotted in our area, mostly in Mesic locations.
