I hiked through the grasslands hills south of Kamloops. After some frosts, most of the forbs are now withered and dormant for the winter season. Various species of grasses have lots their summer color, but still stand. I hiked past lots of crested wheat grass (Agropyron cristatum) , bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata), giant wild rye (Leymus condensatus), squirreltail (Elymus elymoides), and various ryegrasses (Lolium) and bromes (Bromus). Learning all of the types of grasses is a slow process, a series of tasks undertaken by observing, photographing, identifying, and researching. Identifications are added tentatively and comments are welcome.
