Bitterroots Nature Hike
On the May long weekend I drove to an area south of Ashcroft. First I paddled Venables Lake, then I drove to an area (Red Hill) where I can reliably find bitterroots in bloom at this time of the year. I tried a different route this time and found many in bloom within easy access from the parking area. I have found other good spots in the past, all of which required some hiking. For this day I was content to take a few photos and head back to Kamloops.
Shared here are several shots of bitterroot (Lewisia redviva), silverweed (Argentina anserina) from Venables Lake, and trailing daisy (Erigeron flagellaris sp.)
Bitterroots are also blooming in our home garden. Some are cultivars and some are native transplants (See A Gardeners Journal for more information). More information on bitterroots can be found on this website – link
Fantastic! I’ve never had the privilege to find these, but always wanted to. Thanks 👍
