At Scuitto Lake
Every year I paddle Scuitto Lake, usually in early summer. Sometimes I hike Mt. Vicars above the lake and I return to paddle nearby Campbell Lake in late summer. Its a longer bumpy road out to Scutto Lake, but it is one of the better lakes to paddle. While launching and landing and along the drive, I watch for wildflowers and may stop to photograph them. It is a reliable spot for marsh skullcap in bloom and some other lakeside plants. Above the lake, are the usual wildflowers and flowering shrubs for the hot, dry, open forests of our area. Included in this gallery are wild roses (Rosa acicularis), marsh skullcap (Scutellaria galericulata), oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare), pale agoseris (Agoseris glauca), thread-leaved fleabane (Erigeron filifolius sp.), and silverweed (Potentilla anserina).

I will be back to paddle nearby Campbell Lake soon.
- I try to avoid photographing the invasives like mullein, toadflax, oxeye daisy, thistles, and others, but by the end of summer, these may be the only ones still in flower. This will be the last oxeye image for this year.
- These images were shot back at the end of June and have been enqueued for weeks. Other posts are still enqueued. When you get out every day, I accrue are more images from more locations than can be posted in a timely fashion, especially with 6 active websites. They get published later, as the growing season slows down, or even in late fall.
