At Campbell Lake
On a grey, windy, and smoky day, I drove out to Campbell Lake. The lake had faced winterkill so there were no campers or fishermen. With no fish in the lake, there were no pelicans either. There were lots of ducks, especially in the shallow bays. It was a quiet solo paddle around the lake.
I walked the shoreline and some of the flowering and fruiting plants I spotted included curlycup gumweed (Grindelia squarosa), asters (Symphyotrichum sp.), silverweed (Argentina anserina), Canada mint (Mentha canadensis), rosehips (Rosa sp.), chicory (Cichorium intybus), and forget-me-nots (Myosotis sp.).
All of these can be spotted around most lake in the area at this time of year. Even though some are weedy and some are invasive, I try to appreciate the individual flowers and/or fruits when I hike or paddle in the Kamloops area.
