Around Neskonlith Lake
I paddled the shoreline of Neskonlith Lake, then went for a walk, watching for whatever nature had to show off. I found an orange polypore on a birch log in the forest.
The highlights of the day were tiger lilies, in the their first flowering cycle at this elevation.
Cinquefoils were starting to bloom in open areas at the edge of the road.
Although yarrow is common, we sometimes find color variations like this pink-tinged variety.
While exploring a meadow. I started this fawn, which froze, then bounded off.
At the east end of the lake red-winged blackbirds were busily minding their territories.
Blue stickseed with its terminal flowers similar to forget-me-nots are attractive on weedy stems.
Prickly roses in flower were spotted in more open areas.
After this walk around the lake, I drove up the McGillivray Forest Service Road, climbing 16 km to higher elevations where I spotted more wildflowers, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials to investigate, to be featured in a follow-up post.
