A Fall Nature Hike Along Tranquille River
In mid-October we went for a nature hike on the Tranquille River Trail. Fall colors were not as vibrant on this day as we had hoped for, but it was a pleasant day for a walk up to the canyon and back. We observed ducks, butterflies, and several birds, and we stopped to look at and photograph some plants along the way.
Shared here are poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans), rosehips (Rosa sp.), milkweed (Asclepias speciosa), douglas maple (Acer glabrum douglasii), smooth sumac (Rhus glabra), oyster mushroom(?) (Pleurotus sp.), hoary alyssum (Berteroa incana), white campion (Silene latifolia), bittersweet nightshade (Solanum dulcamera), and a pale clouded yellow (Colias hyale) on alfalfa (Medicago sativa).

- Hoary alyssum is an invasive species (more information). It can be poisonous for horses.
- Nightshade is a plant of concern.
- There is lots of poison ivy near the trail. It turns bright red in the fall and the berries are white.
We will be back to hike the route on the snow in winter….
